Students
Many schools offer a student health plan, and some require proof of coverage or let you waive the school plan if you have your own. Check with your school’s student health office first. Students who age out of a parent’s plan at 26, graduate, or drop below full-time status may qualify for a special enrollment period to buy marketplace coverage.
Faculty and staff
Employees of public universities usually have coverage through the school or the state. If you retire, change jobs or become eligible for Medicare at 65, your options change, and it is worth reviewing them before the date your coverage ends.
Retirees turning 65
Long-time Kansas public employees often have retiree coverage that works alongside Medicare. Ask your benefits office how it coordinates with Medicare before you enroll in any Medicare plan.
